BREAKING NEWS - Thai Queenette Basil Crew apprehended

DISCOVERED LATE LAST NIGHT

The infamous and ever fragrant Thai Queenette Basil Crew

discovered and arrested in an abandoned disused propagation chamber in Milton Keynes, late last night, following a tip off from a Genovese neighbour.

BAD BASIL!

Court is already in session this morning. They have been wanted for sometime for their lanky stretched physique and for their intoxicating aromas and flavours. The general public can breathe a sigh of relief now that they are behind bars; we can go over, live now, to the court room, to  hear from our correspondent Basil Faultless, to hear about just what's going on over there, Basil ...

Current Court Proceedings ...

Yes .. thank you Lisa B, there is commotion in the court rooms this morning, following the arrest of the stinky Queenette Crew. I'm hearing the Judges might be considering Capital Punishment, which as we all know could result in their beheading; I'm sure we will find out soon enough .. ahhh wait, yes the Judges are back to pass judgment, YES, it's happened, judgment has been passed; for the crime of Intoxicating Addictive Aromas and Flavours, and the crime of Being Too Lanky and Tall, the Crew have been sentenced to a beheading. This won't result in their actual death, but will slow their progress down, so they don't get too tall in the future. This will also promote their side shoots to grow, the beginnings of rehabilitation for the crew. Being a responsible pungent bush, not an angry tall skinny pungent tree. New beginnings perhaps?
That's it from me from The Courts, an incredible day, with incredible results, this has been Basil Faultless for the Thai Basil Studies News team, here in Milton Keynes. Good evening!

How will the beheading take place?

Surgery, with a sterile ceramic blade.

Pruning Thai Sweet Basil - Where to Cut

Ceramic Blades* are used to prevent heavy oxidation of the remaining plant tissue on the plant after the cut. Metal reacts with sap, so less chance of infection. Never need sharpening too. Though they are NOT chopping blades, they are slicing blades.

The cut is made half way between the lowest node with true leaves, with auxiliary nodes forming from the axils and the node above. So halfway down the internode, between bottom node and next one up. Ignoring the cotyledon's auxiliary nodes at the very bottom. Those nodes will mature into cuttings in the future.
Thai sweet basil's cotyledons and 1st shoots

Basil Cotyledons with auxiliary nodes shooting from the axils. I leave these, they will mature into quality cuttings that will root very quickly, as there is still quite high levels of rooting hormone in that area, because it is so close to the plant's Crown (where the stem meets the soil and turns into roots).

Sweet Thai Basil plant topped / beheaded

The finished beheading, or topping, as it is more commonly known.

The heads went into some crushed chili oil, Thai Nam Prik Pao. There the flavours will infuse the chili and oil, further boosting flavour when cooked with.

Absolutely delicious and delicate when eaten raw, very good for death breath.
